Report on prewar intelligence lagging

This is the same report that Pat Roberts refused to complete before the 2004 elections. He promised in June of 2003 that he would investigate the administrations use of pre-war intelligence. Will he get away with it once more?

The Republican-led committee, which agreed in February 2004 to write the report, has yet to complete its work. Just two of five planned sections of the committee's findings are fully drafted and ready to be voted on by members, according to Democratic and Republican staffers. Committee sources involved with the report, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said they are working hard to complete it. But disputing Roberts, they said they had started almost from scratch in November after Democrats staged their protest.

The Washington Monthly has more on the controversy: Needless to say, the purpose of this was political: it allowed the committee to blast the intelligence community before the 2004 election, but put off the delicate topic of administration malfeasance until after the election.
